What transmission is better, mopar 727 or 904 for a 360 small block?

The car is an automatic and the engine is going to have almost 400hp and 500 torque|||727 is beefier.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TorqueFlite鈥?/a>|||a 904 is a smaller version of the 727 . the 904 can be beefed or built up to handle about 500 horse where the 727 can be built to handle about 650 horse or better the 904 is shorter than the 727 so you would have to change the drive shaft next you have to look at the converter and the crank ballance is it internally ballanced crank or an externally ballanced there are two types of flex plates for the 360 one has a half moon missing from it for the externally ballanced and one is fully round for an intrernally ballanced motor same gos for the converter one has weight and one doesnt|||I haven't delt with theese for a long time and can't remember if the 904 is heavier duty than the torqueflite 727 or not but I never had any problems with the 727 behind my 360. I believe I would use whatever you have first and if it does not hold up then check into another. Hope this helps.|||go with the 727 as they use that tranny behind all the high performance chrysler products engines.|||the 904 is still used in a version or two.
