How to identify a mopar big block engine? It's mounted on a 1977 Dodge Champion RV. Need to know if it'a 440.

on a big block, the distributor will be mounted on the front of the engine. the engine size will be casted on the side of the block. It will be a raised casting and it will just be those numbers, 440, or whatever size it is will be there. How to identify a mopar big block engine? It's mounted on a 1977 Dodge Champion RV. Beginning in 1968, all B%26amp;RB engines have serial # stamped in the left side oil pan rail at the rear corner under the starter opening. The first letters are the manufacturing plant location and the following # are the engine size. 383,400, 440 ect.How to identify a mopar big block engine? It's mounted on a 1977 Dodge Champion RV. Being that it's in an RV, it probably is a 440. If you look at the distributor, to the front and slightly to the right, you'll see a machined surface. There should be a stamped number there.

You can also use the VIN if the motor hasn't been changed. The fifth digit would be the engine size.
