How can i tell the difference between an 400 & 440 mopar engine?
I am not a Mopar expert. But the vin number shows it to be 400ci but I was told it to be a 440ci. How can I tell which it is? Is their any tell tell signs I can look for? Looking for a mopar guru?|||"bob the mechanic" is half right, if it is a 440 the machined surface is to the right of the distributor as you are looking at the engine from the front of the vehicle or the left side of the engine at the inside front corner of the left side valve cover.|||a 400 in mopar ? Sounds like GM|||though these engines look very similiar. there is a few ways to identify them. first one is to look at the machined boss located on the block located to the passenger side of the distributor. that boss will have a stamping with the correct engine side. second, on the side of the block done in front of the drivers side motor mount there is a casting which also identifies engine size.
