Does anyone know what is the best site to buy classic mopar b body parts?

not for the car that you got its real hard to find body parts or anything else for it,try looking in hemmings motor news for some people that have new old stock parts or parts cars for sale or parts for sale,i use to own one and the main reason i got rid of it was their wasn't many of them around and there's literally no one making after market parts for it right now,but there is some new old stock parts on hemmings, you can still buy mechanical parts for it through most parts stores, they might have to order most of them but the are still available, good luck. http://hemmingsmotornews.comDoes anyone know what is the best site to buy classic mopar b body parts?
worked at a body shop that specialized in classics. we always used sherman for body parts.

You can also try Dr. Mopar. However, according to their site, they are scrapping everything next month so you will need to hurry.

Where can i find pistons for a 426 wedge mopar motor 1969?

If Chrysler doesn't have them you'll have to go to an aftermarket company to find pistons for a 426 wedge, although I'm not sure that they would have them for an industrial engine. If not you'll have to go the custom route.Where can i find pistons for a 426 wedge mopar motor 1969?
While it is true that the 426-S's last year was 1965, I believe the engine was still being made in 1966 for some odd applications - I know of a documented Mr. Norm's car with one, and perhaps they used it for some trucks or marine applications. But up to 1969? It's doubtful. You should go to moparts.com and find out how to find the info on your engine so we can learn what the codes say. That will help us determine what engine you really have.Where can i find pistons for a 426 wedge mopar motor 1969?
Well you got the year wrong, but if you have a 426 you can get Aries pistons. Since the pistons are not in big demand they will cut to orderWhere can i find pistons for a 426 wedge mopar motor 1969?
Get your facts straight! There is no such thing. Chrysler stopped production on the 426 wedge in 1965. sorry try again!

You have several choices. If you want to buy parts directly from Chrysler (MOPAR) you will need to become a franchised dealer. You would have to find a dealership that is for sale, and be approved for ownership by Chrysler. This will involve a minimum investment in the one million dollar range.

Choice two is to buy your parts from an existing dealer, and pay retail price.

Choice three, and this is the one I would look into, is to buy a rebuilt alternator from an independent parts store, or a chain. You can buy a good rebuilt alternator for under $200.Mopar alternator for my 2003 dodge dekota, 4.7 V8 2 wheel drive, Is it possible to order from mopar directly?

The dealership is always higher. Go to your local auto parts store , they will save you money. then can help you. good Luck
If you go to one of your local auto parts store you will be able to get a rebuilt one for around $60. Some auto parts stores give a lifetime guarantee on their rebuilds. I bought one from Autozone a while back witha lifetime guarantee for my '72 Plymouth, it self destructed at close to 8000 rpm, and I got a new one with no questions asked for free. After destroying the 3rd one they got a little perturbed with me!

you're lookin at about $1500-2500 for a body with no engine or tranny. We have been lookin for a long time for just the right Mopar, so this comes from experience. We have found that sometimes the best deals are Mopar's that you find sitting on the side of the road for sale, or even sitting in the back of someone's property, and asking them if they are interested in selling it. Good LuckIam interested in bying a 1969 to 1970 mopar for the street real cheap?
An A-body or a C-body is the only thing you can afford. For the latter, finding a nice Dodge or Plymouth 2-door hardtop would be a great cruiser that can still perform well if you have a great engine that makes up for the weight. A Fury I like a cop car would be super sweet!

There is no plans to move away from the V-6 now in use or add another engine option(not even a diesel). With sales of the Wrangler so high right now they are just focusing on building the vehicle they now have.Problems with parts vendors are keeping them from making their production numbers they want and they have a order backlog of up to 3 months on the Rubicons. We were told just last week that they lost 35,000 orders had to be cancelled due to vendor problems. This is not to say they will never offer another engine option, but I don't think it would happen for a couple of years. When is the The Jeep Wrangler Ultimate with 392 HEMI庐 from Mopar coming out?

i have a 75 dodge d100 truck 318 engine its all stock with a 727 torque flight trans. i was wonder if anyone could tell me how to make my 318 have more power and more acceleration i have a 323 gear in the rear if that helps answer it any thanks

How can i get my 318 mopar to perform better ?
I'd start with getting a 4 barrel carburetor (600cfm) and a matching intake manifold like the Edelbrock Performer. Then get a set of headers and 2 in dual exhaust with Flowmasters. Also make sure the engine is properly tuned, has a clean air filter, and maybe get new spark plugs. You could consider an upgrade to an MSD ignition and coil.

That's about all I would spend on the motor, but you could change to lower gears too. But 3.23s aren't that bad. Those are actually pretty good street gears. How can i get my 318 mopar to perform better ?

i have a 1971 dodge demon with a 225 slant six and a 904 tranny in it i am putting a 8 3/4 rear end in it with 3.55 gears. i heard this will give the six enough power to satisfy me, i dont want to have a dragster but i want a car that will respond. will the new rear and gears be enough to increase the power or will i need to buy a mopar crate engine? if it does come to this then will it be very easy to install a 360/320 hp mopar crate motor v8? thanksPutting in a mopar crate engine?
the slant six is a good engine they will take a beating 3.55 sounds like OK but what are the oem gears if you are good with math you can take the diameter of the tire x 3.14 to find how many rev per mile the tire have and go from there if you have any sense you can... at cruising speeds 2800rpm to3000 at 60mph will give you power and be able to drive itPutting in a mopar crate engine?

It will still run like a slant six. If you want to put a crate engine in it, go with a hemi. I'm serious. For the money you would spend on a 360, you would be happier with the hemi.

    Mopar recommended coolant change?

Why in the world would Mopar recommend a ethylene glycol coolant change every 30,000 miles.Isn't this a little extreme?Mopar recommended coolant change?
Nothing is extreme when dealing with factory recommendations. Ethylene glycol is the sorriest antifreeze/summer coolant you can buy. It has a useful life of about 2 years, then it degrades rapidly. The stuff is $8-9 a gallon, which is relatively cheap when you think about broken engine parts because it froze up one night. Use good soft water to flush out the old and put in new. You won't have any problems.

Better still, flush it out and put in the new long life antifreeze/coolant.Mopar recommended coolant change?
What year car are we talking about?? If it does not have extended life coolant in it then 30,000 miles is about right. 2 years,24,000 miles was the industry standard until extended life coolant came out but I don't think Chrysler uses it.

We're talking about a $60 flush every 30,000 miles, so even if it is a bit soon, it's not really that big of a deal.Mopar recommended coolant change?
Weigh the cost of a coolant change vs. a head gasket, tow, and stranded. also since most people use theirs to tow the boat or off-road toys, how much to replace those when you have to leave them somewhere. now you make the call, and remember, nothing last forever

There's calulators on the web that you put in the gear ratios and the hp or the car and it would estimate it. Try and find that stuff that would probably be your best bet. What is the top speed of the Dodge SRT-4 with a Stage 3 Mopar turbocharger?
Without reprogramming the computer, it probably is limitied to 140.

How to install PCV Valve on mopar performance valve covers?

Do I need breathers too??? Cause I believe that there is a hose that runs from the valve cover to the carb then a breather as well??????? and If i do end up putting a hose in will it suck the oil out or just the gases casue the mopar vavle covers dont have anything blocking the oil and rocker arms from splashing on the PCV Vavle on the inside????? FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATEDHow to install PCV Valve on mopar performance valve covers?
What is the year and motor of said car? If you can hook both up the carb will suck the vapors from the crank case and all will be fine if it is hooked to the venture vacuum part of the carb.

One breather and the PVC valve. How to install PCV Valve on mopar performance valve covers?
The valve covers should have baffles inside, to stop the splashing of oil out the hole in the cover. If not, then I don't know what to say.

The way a PCV works, is that the hose goes to the bottom of the carb, below the throttle valve, and during idle period, the vacuum is high, so the suction is high and the pcv will almost close and slow down the flow of gases from the valve cover to the engine.

There is a tapered pointed spring loaded valve inside the pcv, and the pointed tapered part allows the valve to move a little bit since tapered points are hard to pull suction on, and the air flow pushes it a little bit as it goes by. As the valve moves, the tapered point goes into a hole and slowly closes the hole, and so the gases are reduced in flow.

Then as the engine speeds up, the vacuum drops in the engine and so the pull on the tapered point is reduced, and the spring inside the pcv pushes it back, and more gases are allowed to flow, and are sucked in.

Until finally, the engine gets to the point where vacuum is almost gone, and so the spring loaded tapered point is just floating in the middle of the pcv and no gas is flowing, since there is no vacuum.

At this point the fumes from the engine can reverse themselves and go the other way, being pulled into the breather by the high air flow into the engine, and burned that way.

The spring loaded tapered point has a flat end on the opposite end, and under the suction of the engine through the breather, it then is pulled up tight against the pcv on the valve cover side, and seals off, so that it doesn't pull anything from the intake manifold.

If you do not have any sort of baffle to stop the oil from going into the pcv, it could pull oil out and put it into the intake.

The reason I explained all this, is that so you can see why you need the breather hose also, since it plays a part in furnishing air during idle flowing in one direction, and then pulling fumes from the engine during high speed, flowing in the other direction.

Maybe there is a pcv that has a baffle in it, I don't know. It seems weird that valve covers would be made without some sort of baffle to stop the oil from splashing. How to install PCV Valve on mopar performance valve covers?
i went to advanced auto and used a combination of two grommets that fit together to get a good seal and still was big enough to fit in the hole.(gegedy). The PCV valve has a ball inside it that only works one way, so no worries. The breather is not a big deal so just don't worry to much about it.

First off, make sure that you have a sufficiently wide flange to allow enough material on the outside of the new studs.

You bought a race car without knowing how to do basic work on it? Wow.

I'm not a very good verbal teacher, so please bear with me. I'm usually the type to show people how to do things.

The first thing to do is loosen the distributor retainer. There is a for shaped bracket that bolts into the block, and snugs down onto the base of the distributor. Bring the motor up to operating temperature, and plug the vacuum advance line going into the carb. Very carefully twist the distributor either way, but only barely. The engine should change in the way it runs. Don't worry about getting a timing light on it, because you don't need to adjust it to stock specifications, since it's a performance motor. It sounds like you're working with a small block, so turning it clockwise will retard the timing, and counterclockwise will advance the timing. Big blocks are opposite. With the vacuum advanced plug, get the engine idling the best you possibly can. At this point you can adjust your carb. I've never worked with a Barry Grant carb before, but you can probably get a tuning manual from the manufacturer's website. Or better yet, you could put an Edelbrock on it. :)

Put the vacuum advance back on before doing any carb tuning. Once you have the carb tuned, adjust your timing again, and then keep alternating tuning your carb and adjuting your timing until you have the vehicle running the best you can get it.

If it helps, the firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, going clockwise.

    Good luck.

Any advice for the first start of a big block mopar?

new rebuilt 5year ago. turns fine, no rust.Any advice for the first start of a big block mopar?
you will definately want to prime the motor. You will need to get a priming rod tool (www.manciniracing.com) remove the distributor, and the oil pump drive gear just below. (this is easily done with a screwdriver and magnetic picup tool.

Then insert the priming rod and spin the rod with a drill until you get an oil presure reading on your presure gauge. (if the gauge is electric, be sure the key is on) Spin the drill in the same direction as your distributor rotation.

You can have a buddy turn the motor while you prime it to get better lubrication. (you will need to reset the timing if you rotate the motor)

Once primed, replace the distibutor, and oil pump drive gear. (be sure to return thrm to the exact positions they were in, it may take a couple tries with the oil drive gear but its important) Make sure the carb has fuel, give it a couple shots of starting fluid to help it fire till the float bowls fill.

Once started give the timing a quick check (it doesnt need to be dead on, and this needs to be done fast, just make sure theres no pinging, or backfiring).

Now you need to break-in the camshaft, this will reqire you to run the motor at 2000rpm for 20 minutes, and you will want to rev the engine up every minute or so to help spin the lifters.

After the 20 minute break-in let the motor cool and then change the oil and filter before restarting.

Now you can go back and adjust the timing, and get the final tuning done.

Remeber to make sure to do these things before firing the motor:

    Check oil

    Check radiator

    Check fuel

    Check Battery

    Check firing order

Verify that static timing is set (this means that #1 piston was brought to TDC of compression stroke, and that the plug wires were set according to the location of the rotor to dist cap)

Make sure distributor is just loose enough to turn by hand

Inspect for any leaks (shut down if need be for safety sake)

Items to have on hand for break-in:

    Fire extinguisher

Box fan (I set this in front of the radiator to help with air flow)

Screw driver, and a small assortment of tools for minor adjustments to carb, etc.

A good friend to help watch you and the engine

a 6-pack in the fridge, for celebration after a good break-in, or to ease the pain of a failed attempt.
Turn it over a few times without spark, to let the oil circulate. Disconnect the coil or whatever.Any advice for the first start of a big block mopar?
yeah, sell it before it goes bad three weeks later.
get a little Marvel Mystery Oil and put about 1 tbsp. in each cylinder through the spark plug holes. Fresh oil in the crankcase is a good idea, too. Disable the ignition and turn it over a few times to get the oil through the passages. Fire it up and enjoy the rumble. Let it idle for at least 5 mins to ensure no loose fasteners or other problems. BTW, the Marvel is to reduce piston friction on first startup and ensures rust cleaning internally. just bcuz theres no rust on the outside doesn't mean none inside. Cylinder walls are very smooth and rust very quickly when they are not in use.Any advice for the first start of a big block mopar?
Honestly switch to Chevy. Seriously no hard feeling just easier to find parts and work on.
    go crusin or paint it
That would depend on where or not it is in the vehicle. If it is then make sure all the hoses, lines, wires, etc are hooked up properly. Make sure you have all the additives and oil at proper levels. It would be a good idea to be sure your battery is fully charged. You shouldn't have any trouble. A good rule of thumb is take it easy for a while till the rings and seals get seated good and the valves set good. A good driving speed for a week or so is around 50 to 55 mph. not over that
NEVER CRANK A DRY ENGINE. THE BEST WAY TO LUBE IT IS PRIME THE OIL PUMP. PULL THE DISTRIBUTOR USE A DRILL AND A PUMP PRIME SHAFT OND LET IT SPIN FOR A MINUTE REINSTALL DISTRIBUTOR. PULL ALL PLUGS AND PUT A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL IN EACH CYLINDER. THEN TURN THE MOTOR OVER BY HAND(SOCKET ON CRANK) THEN PUT PLUGS IN AND FIRE MOTOR.

Are the standard JEEP / Mopar tube front bars airbag compatible?

The bar is like two horizontal tubes with another tube that loops up and across and down between the headlights of the tj. You know that ones im talkin about. most jeeps have 'em. The ones im talking about are the Mopas ones. I ask this question because if they arent, they would make the airbags pointless. Are the standard JEEP / Mopar tube front bars airbag compatible?
The bumpers have no effect on the air bags.the controller is inside the Jeep, and measures impact through the whole frame and body.so go ahead and buy some cool stuff for it!Are the standard JEEP / Mopar tube front bars airbag compatible?
most aftermarket bumpers have little effect on air bag sensors. generally the sensor isn't actually in the bumper, but further back in the body, and detects the motion of the vehicle, rather than being 'crushed' or something like that.

so...yesAre the standard JEEP / Mopar tube front bars airbag compatible?
I agree with lj. The bumper has no bearing on whether the airbag works or not. The sensors are not located in the bumper. Any aftermarket bumper will work fine. Why Mopar?? You can get much better for much less $$ elsewhere. Do some looking online for "Jeep bumpers".

Why do Mopar engines sound so mean?

I'd like a technical explanation regarding the distinct sound of Mopar engines, specifically V8s. They sound a bit throatier, and snappier than Chevy engines (no offense to them at all, I own several Chevy powered vehicles as well) A good example would be the intro to the 1983 movie, "Christine"Why do Mopar engines sound so mean?
part of it is from the combustion chamber design, along with valve timing, and the carburetor size used.(modern mopars use a slightly larger injector for same affect, with intake manifold changes )

  • Question about Dodge and Mopar

Does anyone know if I can buy Mopar oil direct from my dealer? I want to change the oil myself, but I prefer to use Mopar products and they are not sold in stores.Question about Dodge and Mopar
you can buy it from a dealer or have a parts store order it for you, they can order it and still save you money on it,i keep a case of it around because some of my customers want to use only mopar brand.if you buy it from a dealer its really high, try through advance to get them to order you some,if you ask at the dealer sometimes they will offer a discount on it if you buy it by the case, and it doesn't take long to go through a case of it,good luck.
A major oil company made the oil for Mopar, as I remember it was Ashland oil company, who also makes Vavoline, when I worked for a dealer in 1999. My local Walmart has two styles of Mopar oil filters in stock one for the cummings pickups and the other fits my 01 Dakota V6. they sell for 11.99 and 5.99 compaired to 28.99 and 10.99 from the local dealer. I have been using Castrol syntec in both of my Dodges for several years, I have had no oil related issues.Question about Dodge and Mopar
It's basically this rule of thumb as long as the oil you buy is the right grade etc and is has been approved for it's puropse it's fine to use it but never ever mix different brands of oil.

Please don't be fooled by such products that dealerships use bec they only use such products bec they made a long term deal with the oil supplier companies to use their product and in return they get it cheaper and the oil suppliers get free constant advertising from the vehicle manufacture. Try not to buy such supplies from the dealerships bec they it's outragously priced usaully , plus buy a reliable at least mid quality oil filter and buy the big 5 litre containers of oil to do your oil changes bec that is good enough for most vehicles for a oil change job if you look around you can buy them for about 12 bucks all in all.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way even the ppl that are making the engines made such deals with the big oil suppliers.
well you can, but what many people dont know, is that mopar brand motor oil,is just a rebadged commercially availible oil. the only time "changing up" is bad is if your going from a base oil,to a synthetic, and thats only in some cases, particularly in an older vehicle built prior to 95-97.as long as the oil you select is the correct grade ( i.e 10w30/5w30 etc ) itd be fine.just as with a oil filter. it doesnt matter if its fram, purolater,or k%26amp;n. it was designed to fill the requirements by that vehicleQuestion about Dodge and Mopar
Yes, the dealer's parts department will be happy to take your money.
I doubt mopar oil is anywhere near as good as mobil 1 why would you want mopar oil?

I'm putting a mopar 360 in a 79 Dodge ramcharger. it has a car oil pan. will the same oil pick up tube work?

you have to swap out the pan and the pick up sump on those because the one for the car is different and will hit on the steering linkage, the rest is the same though, good luck.I'm putting a mopar 360 in a 79 Dodge ramcharger. it has a car oil pan. will the same oil pick up tube work?
You will need to measure from the pump mount to the bottom of the screen. Then measure your oil pan. you will need the same clearance that you have with the old oil pan.I'm putting a mopar 360 in a 79 Dodge ramcharger. it has a car oil pan. will the same oil pick up tube work?
I think you need to swap to truck pan AND oil pickup screen.
You will have to get the oil pickup tube for the truck pan as the sump is in back, and on car pan sump is in front and has a long pickup tube.

Would a mopar 360 be able to fit in a 87 jeep wagoneer?

i want to build a high performance jeep that i could not only take off road, but also take to the drag strip. i've got the plans for the rest of the build but not sure on what the powerplant should be, open to suggestionsWould a mopar 360 be able to fit in a 87 jeep wagoneer?
Check out my link below!Would a mopar 360 be able to fit in a 87 jeep wagoneer?
if your wagoneer is a full size then you should have the AMC 360 V-8. the difference between the amc and chrysler 360's is alot. the amc v-8 will have the distributor on the front of the engine where the mopar will be in the rear. the amc is correct for the wagoneer and you can switch is with the amc 401 as they are identical blocks. no moving the motor mounts. the mopar would have to have the mounts relocated to accomidate the mopar unit. additional problems will occur due to the differences in the amc 360 and the mopar 360.they have nothing in common but cubic inch displacement.if you need more info then please check out www.bulltear.com .

-get fimiliar with mopar and how it works before.

-make sure you have a router, you need one.

-it is almost needed to know java to do this. its all in java, and to edit your server you need to know basics of java.

-there is a program that must always run on your computer for it to work. you cant have it going 24/7 like frugoo scape etc, so dont expect it.

-it would help alot if someone else helped you.

-also, i can hold 60-65 people with no lag (if i have nothing else open) on mine. i have 1.5 gb of ram, and a dual core 2.99ghz processor. you NEED a decent computer for it to be worth it, otherwise people will lag majorly.

What kind of carb to get for my mopar 383?

i own a '70 charger with a big block 383, rightn ow it has the original 2 barrel carb on it. i want more power. i like the look of the Edelbrock's rather than the Holley's. So, im on summitracing.com and i have a lot of choices.. i was thinking the higher cfm the more power output right? but what else do i need to look out for? some say electric choke, and some say manual choke. sadly, i dont know what a shoke even does. i've had a buddy of mine try and teach me, but i still dont understand. so.. could you explain to me what a choke is/does in stupid man's terms? and the difference between a manual and electric choke? and what is this Single inlet and Dual inlet on the carbs? would i be okay with a Edelbrock Performer 750 cfm, 4 barrel, manual choke, single inlet? my motor is all original and stock right now. i am going to beef up the cam later on, but for now, would this carb be okay? if not, can u lead me in the right direction? and do i need a new throttle cable to the gas pedal? What kind of carb to get for my mopar 383?
a choke opens the carb up to left in fuel and air electric is way to go for street machines manual choke is not harder but you have to choke carb

you dont want to get a big cfm carb but not small see

a big cfm carb will smother you engine in fuel and air

a small cfm will deprice it from fuel and air to get this

take you horsepower and divcide it by the rpms

    example

    335

    over

    5200 rpms

that comes out to about .00645 or what ever but take the first 3 digits you see andf that will probally be best carb

*note this is how mopar muscle does it i havent seen article in about 5 months but thats about itWhat kind of carb to get for my mopar 383?
Ive got a 383 mag out of my dads 68 charger (lived up north and body died a long time ago) it has a 800 cfm Carter carb., a 750 cfm will work fine, edelbrock, i haven't had any luck with. Looks arent everything, i would go with a holley 750 double pumper, vacuum secondaries if worried about better gas mileage. (its hidden under the air cleaner anyway) Chokes, I'd go manual. The choke cuts some of the air supply into the motor causing a richer air/fuel mixture making it easier to start on colder days(remember the old pump the pedal 2 or 3 times in the winter) that usually set the manual choke, and puts some xtra fuel in via the accelerator pump. Single inlet has one fuel line in, dual=dual hope this helps

This one is for all you mopar people out there. I need to know how many horsepower a '76 440 would have?

I have a 1978 dodge powerwagon and it has what i believe to be a 1976 440 engine (not sure of this) and i would like to kknow if the engine is worth more than it would cost to fix the truck (body work frame almost in two etc) any help would be greatly appreciatedThis one is for all you mopar people out there. I need to know how many horsepower a '76 440 would have?
according to chiltons book (6T = 1976 - 440 ) T code for the engine is 205 HP for 76 models -- 215 HP for 1975 models it went down from 260 cause of emission, 77 is the last year for regular 440 (code T)200HP

you would kinda wish that you had an U engine code those are 440HP(high performance) engines 250 HP and up to 325
In 1970 they had 375hp. But I dont know about 1976. I know thats about the time they stared tuning them down with pollution s_ _ t.This one is for all you mopar people out there. I need to know how many horsepower a '76 440 would have?
that 440 only has about 240 hp it was low compression and the cam timing was retarded to meet smog requirements

the heads have small ports and valves...they are not all created equal
This will answer all your question:

http://www.allpar.com/squads/engines.htm鈥?/a>This one is for all you mopar people out there. I need to know how many horsepower a '76 440 would have?
there are a lot of people out there looking for a 440 motor, it doesn't matter what horsepower it has as the motor can be built to any horsepower you want, I know a guy who just paid $3,500 for a rebuilt 69 440 motor and it didn't have a carburator or exhaust manifolds with it.
Bad Seed is right. The smog restrictions had the good ol' 440 choked down to what a small block makes as far as horsepower in the late 70's. They dropped the 440's in 78 so you got one of the last ones. As far as the value of the truck as a whole, the best thing about it is the motor! I have several Mopars, engines etc.. and the 440 is worth more than your truck unless it's in very good shape. Only those who truly like the old Ramchargers will pay much, if anything for one.

As far as potential fo rthat 440...open you wallet! They more you want to spend the more it will make! But overall, it doesn't take much more than the basics to make a very nice 440 monster.
    In 76 Everything Was CRAPPY
A simple answer is the HP rating from Dodge in those days was near 275 and 290 HP depending on if the engine was equipped with a 2 or 4 barrell carb. I would concentrate on the 440 by either rebuilding the engine. It depends on how deep your pockets are to rebuild the 440 and or truck. Good Luck
it have 375 horsepower and 480 lb/ft of torque

The first letters are the manufacturing plant location and the following # are the engine size. 383,400, 440 ect.How to identify a mopar big block engine? It's mounted on a 1977 Dodge Champion RV. Being that it's in an RV, it probably is a 440. If you look at the distributor, to the front and slightly to the right, you'll see a machined surface. There should be a stamped number there.

You can also use the VIN if the motor hasn't been changed. The fifth digit would be the engine size.

How do you remove the center bolt on harmonic balancer of a v8 318 mopar?

tried to remove keeps turning the whole balancer how do i lock it in place to get just bolt to move and come offHow do you remove the center bolt on harmonic balancer of a v8 318 mopar?
Many years ago when I worked on the line, we would put a 24 inch pull handle on the bolt and rest it against the frame. Then we would use a remote starter switch to just "bump" the engine over. The starter would loosen the bolt and we'd take it the rest of the way out with a ratchet and socket. Be VERY careful to not get your fingers between the wrench and the frame or you could lose a finger or four.

The next best thing is to use a half inch impact wrench on it. The impact wrench will loosen it with minimal turning of the crank.
Just use an impact on it. If you dont have one most hardware stores will rent an electric one to you for $10 an hour. How do you remove the center bolt on harmonic balancer of a v8 318 mopar?
Put the belts back on and let them hold it still
All 3 of the previous answers will work. But there's another way that's less dangerous/expensive/work. Simply remove the torque Converter/Flywheel inspection plate, and jam the tip of a decent sized flat-bladed screwdriver or prybar in the teeth where the starter engages, so that the shaft is up against the drivers side of the transmission bellhousing. Now, when you turn the bolt, that will keep the crankshaft from turning.

Or, they actually make a special tool to do this, called a flywheel turning tool. Works great for holding it still too.

Awesome Car, the CUDA! Cool racing factory Paint Jobs as well! What is the difference between barracuda and cuda mopar muscle cars?
As I recall better suspension, cool paint options and I think engine choices. I do know from experience that the rear valence is different. 'Cuda had holes in the valence for the exhaust tips and Barracuda had no holes.

as i recalled, the Barracuda was the base version with a small engine, manual trans, just your plain jane car. The 'Cuda was the high performance version with a high horsepower engine, special tranny, suspension, brakes, etc.

Drove a friend's 1970 Cuda with a 440, 6 pack and 4spd, it was freeking fast car. Sucked gas like you wouldn't believe. What is the difference between barracuda and cuda mopar muscle cars?
No difference,,,,the Barracuda was a new model in the early 60's and morphed into an awesome muscle car around 1970.
only difference is the body style. It's the same lineage. it grew bigger from 1970-1974.What is the difference between barracuda and cuda mopar muscle cars?
    No difference.

    They are exactly the same.
just a name change in the late 60s or early 70s

Are you ready to watch Brad Keselowski take MoPar (in NASCAR ) to a whole new level?

Brad Keselowski is psyched and motivated to make the #12 machine do what no one else has been able to do in a while. Do you think he will get the job done, and bring back the racing heritage status to the smaller of the big three in NASCAR?Are you ready to watch Brad Keselowski take MoPar (in NASCAR ) to a whole new level?
If Penske can give him some great equipment, Brad is gonna have a great yr, if any driver can do it he can. I'm a die hard Chevy fan but, I look forward to watching him next yr, I bet he wins a race before Kurt does.

Go Dale Jr.. Bring on 2010
As a mopar guy why yes!!!I,m just sad to see RPM going to ford....It,s been 40 years since the Pettys had anything to do with ford...Man I hate ford.......I rather see a Toyota in victory lane than a ford....As far as heritage goes it was gone in the 70,s when they mandated the motors.....Now nascar mandates everything....Are you ready to watch Brad Keselowski take MoPar (in NASCAR ) to a whole new level?
oh yes!! He is very talented and is the only one who can really gain points on Kyle Busch in the nationwide series in his "juiced up" toyota. I think he'll do very well, even make the chase, but he wont make any friends, but he doesnt need em, hes gonna get a whole lot of fans if he stays agressive
You bet I am. I am a Dodge girl at heart, but have fallen for Brad's driving, positive attitude and willing to learn this year. I am so glad he will be driving for Penske next year and I think Kurt and Brad will made a great team. He is with an awesome team and is going to have fun and shake some stuff up next year!

Go Dodge! Are you ready to watch Brad Keselowski take MoPar (in NASCAR ) to a whole new level?
Brad just better remember that the same stuff can happen to him

    his comments

"if you didn't come to race, you shouldn't be here?"

    he took out Martin too...

    rolled him

if/when it happens to him, I wonder if he will as "gracious"?
Oh yes I am excited about next year and Kes. driving a dodge in nascar. and watch him. i think dodge and penske will have a big surprise soon for the fans and that surprise will shock a lot of people and blow them away.
Brad shows a lot of promise...probably more than anyone since JJ. I'll bet Rick Hendrick had more than one moment wishing he could dump Jr and keep Brad. Penske lucked out by getting him and I expect Brad to be a contender next year. I just wish he'd check his attitude a bit.
Two dodges to victory lane next year. 1. Kurt Busch. 2. Brad Keselowski. Both could go to the chase. Watch out!
I'm looking forward to seeing Bulldozer Brad get into Kyle next year!
Brad Keselowski will make Kyle Busch's car look like a Toyota

    ...oh wait!

    It already is!
Yes brad is a very talented young man and the sky's the limit.Go brad for 2010.
he shouldve been sponsored by cat and put a plow on the front for the way he drives
    he's gunna be a failure
I am ready to watch brad take it to a whole new level in nascar next year in nascar. I think dodge will have a surprise with an engine nad performance for us next year.
As long as he can keep Kurt Busch BEHIND HIM him he should be able to do well in the #12 Dodge. Brad Keselowski is really getting a lot of bad publicity because of Talladega. He is getting it from some fans and also from Kurt Busch himself. Brad Keselowski didn't wreck Kurt. Kurt Busch fell out of the inside line in the turn (with a damaged slower car) and fell back in front of Brad who had a run on the outside lane. Brad had to slow for Kurt and Brian Vickers came up from behind and tapped Brad Keslowski's car just as Brad was hooking up to Kurt coming out of the turn. That caused Brad to get loose and spin Kurt. For some reason Kurt seems to think it was Brad Keslowski's fault.

All of that brings me to a point. I think Brad Keselowski is good enough to take the #12 Dodge to the next level provided he doesn't listen to a word that Kurt Busch says. Brad needs to go in there with the fire he has and not let anyone influence what he does. Just because Kurt has been with Penske for several years doesn't mean he is top guy at Penske.

Brad needs to do what Brad wants to do and the heck with what Kurt Busch thinks. Of course if Brad is successful then Kurt will more than likely try to take credit for grooming Brad Keselowski.

Where do I get a relatively affordable 350ci and up chevy or mopar v8...here in the Philippines?

Remember chevrolet and mopars were pretty darn popular here during the 50's up to the late 60's...i was planning to build an owner-type jeep roadster stuffed with a 305, 350, heck I'd give an arm and a leg to cram in a 426 HEMI...problem is the people here dont even know what a HEMI is or what the numbers 305 and 350 or 440 or 426 stand for... most drivers have civics and corollas and lancers..(1500cc, 1600cc,1600cc respectively) so they would know very little about it.. please tell me what particular shop or person has such a motor...(I appreciate positive comments and helpful hints...^^)Where do I get a relatively affordable 350ci and up chevy or mopar v8...here in the Philippines?
Ok a HEMI is a type of dual direct injected engine invented by Daimler Chrysler. It directly injects the petrol into the engine to give it more fizz. A 350ci is how big a engine is ie. 350 cubic inches. Basically the bigger the engine is the same as more cc. I don't really know about the Philippines but you could maybe check some exotic car mags for Chevy or Mopar. P.S. If you didn't know 1600cc is AKA 1.6L.

    Can a mopar 383/440 be put into a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4X4?

is there a kit or a magazine articale with this type of swap? the truck now has a 318 and would like to swap out for a 383/440. is there a wiring kit to go along with that? transmision and drive axles info would be great. Can a mopar 383/440 be put into a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4X4?
actually to do this you would be going backwards but yes it can be done, the engine swap though would require you to also do away with the present computer system because the 383 or the 440 neither one supports the use of any of the sensors that are needed for the newer model trucks or cars, and it would also require the use of an older model transmission and transfer case,a friend of mine is running a 440 in a off road vehicle an he did away with all the computer stuff, and wiring and went back to the basics on his truck, you cant do it using the existing computer though, some of the wiring can be used though, you don't have to buy a harness for it,you,ll just be doing away with a lot of unneeded wires, there's really no articles i know of that support this idea though, but its a do it your self project, there are kits to install the engine with though through this site, good luck,http://www.engine-swaps.com/Can a mopar 383/440 be put into a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4X4?

If something is hard to get, the cost usually goes up due to Supply and demand. Will the Mopar Muscle cars go up in value again?
The simple answer is yes, anything even a thimble will be worth more in 1000 years, than it will be today, that is just textbook scarity, and rarity values.

Good example of this is artwork or paintings, all of which were painted hundreds of years ago. They continue to go up in value because collectors snap up rare models, and less and less are availble for sale causing the price to rise due to availbility

  • Is the mopar 400cid the same block as a 426 hemi?

Hi there, i have a 1972 dodge charger with a 400cid big block in it and i was told that the 400cid block is the same block as the 426 hemi, just want to know if this is true or not.

    Thanks,

AdamIs the mopar 400cid the same block as a 426 hemi?
The 400 cubic inch is a "B" engine.

The 426 Hemi is a "RB" engine and most engine parts will NOT interchange between the two. The RB engine family has a taller deck height for a longer stroke.

Visit http://www.allpar.com/, click engines and go from there for more info.Is the mopar 400cid the same block as a 426 hemi?
    B engines

All B-series engines have a 3.375 inches (85.7 mm) stroke. Plymouth called their version of the early B engine the Golden Commando. It produced 305 brake horsepower (227 kW). DeSoto's B engine was named Turboflash. It put out 295 brake horsepower (220 kW). Dodge's variant was called the D-500 and produced 320 brake horsepower (240 kW).

    400

The 400 cu in (6.6 L) B engine was introduced in 1972. It shares the B family's 3.38 inches (86 mm) stroke, but is bored out to 4.34 inches (110 mm). There were standard- and high-performance options.

    RB engines

The RB engines, produced from 1959 to 1979, are raised-block (taller) versions of the B engines. All RB engines have a 3.75 inches (95 mm) stroke, with the bore being the defining factor in engine size. Bore center distance is 4.84 inches (123 mm). All RBs are oversquare.

    426

Not to be confused with the 426 Hemi, the 426 RB was a wedge-head RB big-block with a 4.25 inches (108 mm) bore. Produced from late in the 1962 model year to mid-1964, the 426 wedge served as Chrysler's main performance engine until the introduction of the 426 Hemi. It was initially offered as a "non-cataloged" option S42 in Chryslers (the number of such produced is uncertain), offered with 373 or 385 bhp (278 or 287 kW) via a single 4-barrel carburetor (11.0 or 12.0:1 compression ratio, respectively), or 413 or 421 bhp (308 or 314 kW) via ram-inducted dual-4-barrel carburetors (same compression ratios previously mentioned).[2] For 1963, horsepower ratings would slightly increase (see below), and it became optional in B-bodied Dodges and Plymouths. After 1963, it would be used only in Dodges and Plymouths.[3]

The Max Wedge was a race-only version of the 426 wedge engine offered from the factory. Known as the Super Stock Plymouth and Ramcharger Dodge, the Max wedge featured high flow cylinder heads developed through state of the art( at the time) airflow testing.[4] They had 1鈪?inch exhaust valves that required that the cylinder bores be notched for clearance. The blocks were a special severe duty casting with larger oil feed passages than other RB engines and the blocks were stress relieved by the factory. Induction came by means of a cross ram intake manifold tuned for peak power above 4000 rpm and two Carter AFB-3447SA 4 barrel carburetors. The Max Wedge also included high-flow cast iron exhaust manifolds that, on the later versions, resembled steel tube headers. The Max Wedge was factory rated at 415 or 425 bhp (309 or 317 kW) (depending on compression), and 480 ft路lbf (650 N路m) at 4400 rpm.

Before the end of the 1963 model year Chrysler introduced the Stage II Max Wedge with improved combustion chamber design and an improved camshaft. The last performance year for the Max Wedge came in '64 with the Stage III. The factory advertised power rating never changed despite the Stage II and III improvements.

There was also a "426-S" available in 1964 and 1965. It bears little relation to the Max Wedge except for basic architecture and dimensions. The "426 Street Wedge" was available only in B-body cars (Plymouth and Dodge) and light duty Dodge D Series trucks, it was little more than an increased-bore version of the standard New Yorker 413 single 4-barrel engine. Is the mopar 400cid the same block as a 426 hemi?
no its not even close, the 426 is in a class of it own on the big block engine, the 400 was a good engine but at the time it came out it wasn't very powerful,it can't be made in to a 426 either, the 426 block was one of a kind design, good luck.
You wish, the 400 was a smogged out boat anchor, just an hermaphrodite B block to meet the EPA regulations of the time, Ford tried it too, with a bored and stroked 351 Windsor, Chrysler just used a 389, both were bad ideas, but at least Ford dident screw it up as bad.

What is better a early 70s 318 or 360 MOPAR Engine?

I'm in the process of buying an engine and have heard good about the two. i don't know what to choose. I'm going to build a low budget mid horsepower engine, which would be best. its going in a 1970 Plymouth ValiantWhat is better a early 70s 318 or 360 MOPAR Engine?
unfortunately the Mopar 360, like the other 360's made (Ford and AMC each had one) was garbage. it was underpowered and relatively unreliable. the 318 could be made to match it power wise and was infinitely more reliable. however, for a Mopar, you do have a better small block choice. Chrysler did make a 340 6 pack for a number of years which produced excellent HP as well as proving to be reliable and useful.

it was available until at least 1971 in Chrysler cars.
The 360 would be better - there is NO substitute for cubic inches. I had a '75 car with a 318 and it was probably the second slowest car I ever had (the slowest was a '57 VW pickup truck.) On the plus side, though, it was pretty much bulletproof - nothing ever went wrong with it.What is better a early 70s 318 or 360 MOPAR Engine?
For an automobile I'd go with the 318. It offers good gas mileage and reasonable power. The 360, with it's exceptionable torque, is better suited for a light truck or tow vehicle.
They are both good but you can't beat a 440 MagnumWhat is better a early 70s 318 or 360 MOPAR Engine?

I need prices for mopar cold air intake?

for a 99 ram 5.9 L........ and benefits of it?I need prices for mopar cold air intake?
cold air intakes do exactly what the name implies, they get colder air into the intake by placing the filter in such a place where it gets air from the outside. a cold air intake, since the air that goes into the engine is cooler, increases performance and efficency

they tend to give you 10-30 horsepower, depending on the application and 1-4 mpg better gas mileage, again depending on the application.

depending on the brand, a good intake for your application would run you in between 200 and 300 dollars.I need prices for mopar cold air intake?
Try supertruckusa.com. I have a 95 ram 5.9 and they seem to have quite a bit of items for dodge trucks and other trucks as well. Also the more cold air going into the intake the better combustion and can help with fuel mileage.I need prices for mopar cold air intake?

I had a lifter ticking issues before, so I replaced my lifters. It did fix the problem, it is a lot better... BUT a couple of them seem to still tick during start up, then it goes away and it's fine.

Should the pre-load be re-adjusted now that the engine has been run? I also did re-break in the engine and used break in oil.

If the pre load is adjustable, most definitely, and mostly what your hearing is no upper oil lube at start up, pretty common, also have you changed the break in oil to normal drive oil. Might be time to if not.

How Will NASCAR Survive Without Chrysler Mopar Sponsorship?

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=email_en%26amp;sid=axs5Oz4fZ.wQ

Chrysler will file a pre-packaged Bankruptcy tomorrow to facilitate a merger with FIAT. How will this impact NASCAR sponsorship ?How Will NASCAR Survive Without Chrysler Mopar Sponsorship?
In the late 60s early 70s the only factory backed cars were ford %26amp;mercury.GM and Chry. had banned all factory backed racing and advertising related to racing. As you can see Nascar made it just fine.Don't worry about Nascar.
    It won't.

Go UPS and Discount Tire #6!!!How Will NASCAR Survive Without Chrysler Mopar Sponsorship?
It will survive the same way it did while Chrysler was not there before, just fine.

Teams will go to Chevy and Ford and life will go on as it did before.
It won't have any major impact. Teams can switch to Ford, Chevy or Toyota. The bodies are basically the same and there are only a handful of engine makers who supply all the teams anyway. How Will NASCAR Survive Without Chrysler Mopar Sponsorship?
Question what going to happen to Chevy ? they will run Buick

the is no more pontiacs they are going to run caddys
    how will nascar survive ??????????

HAHAHA dodge sucks in nascar their engines blow all the time and they are the slowest cars on the track !!!!!!!!! no one wants Chrysler engines in nascar all them have switched to Chevrolet or Toyota engines by now chrystler is a joke in nascar and it will be better off with them gone
They may have other corporations sponsoring them. NASCAR racing is big business, and they don't necessarily need money from the Chrysler corporation. They do it in the NHRA without auto manufacturers sponsorship. It doesn't mean that we won't see Dodge in NASCAR.
maybe instead of charger it will be called something else
technically they could easily just go to a certain body style and they build the engines in the shops along with everything else the car name is a sponsership thing anyway.

Whats the easiest way to tell the difference between the different mopar v8's (60'S and 70's)?

prefferably without pulling apart the engineWhats the easiest way to tell the difference between the different mopar v8's (60'S and 70's)?
Your best source of info would be http://www.allpar.com/ and click engines.

Chrysler re-engineered most of their engines in the late '60's and carried these changes into the early '70's when emission laws and insurance companies pretty much killed the big block high horsepower engines. The 383 became the 400, the 340 was dropped at the end of the '73 model year and the 360 (introduced in '71) became the midsize engine, the 440 was built until 1978 but at lower compression ratios.

All the Chrysler blocks are cast with the engine size somewhere on the outside of the block, the 440 has a pad in front of the intake manifold on the left side of the engine stamped "440", all big blocks 383, 400, 440 and 426 Hemi (massive valve covers) have a front mounted distributor on the right side of the engine that sits at an angle. All small blocks 318, 340 and 360 have a rear mounted distributor.

There are small differences as well, engine colors, air cleaner designs, and exhaust manifold configurations just to name a couple.Whats the easiest way to tell the difference between the different mopar v8's (60'S and 70's)?
the ones from the 60,s won't have smog pollution pump on them and you can also tell the difference in them by the intakes they got on them, the ones from the 60,s doesn't have the large port for the vacuum hook on in it that has the one large hose and three small ones on it,it only has a port with two vacuum lines going to it,another way to identify them was the newer ones had an egr valve and the older ones didn't,that the easy way to look at them an identify them, without going in to details, good luckWhats the easiest way to tell the difference between the different mopar v8's (60'S and 70's)?
it would be very hard to tell just by looking at them . it would be easer to tell the size then the year just by looking the for sure way to check the year would be from the casting numbers

  • How many ohms is a Mopar Radio?

I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has the cd/cassette combo and was wondering the impedance of the radio or at least ohm ratings that would work. I don't want to switch out the radio because I love the steering wheel mounted controls and don't want to spend an extra few hundred to get a new radioHow many ohms is a Mopar Radio?
If you don't have the factory amplified Infinity system then the speakers are standard 4 ohm. With the Infinity system they are likely 2 ohm but I have seen some years that use 6 ohm speakers. It's next to impossible to find a 2 or 6 ohm aftermarket replacement speaker for the Infinity systems. However you can use 4 ohm speakers in their place as the Infinity amplifiers used are versatile and can can handle a 4 ohm load. Worst case would be if it is an Infinity with 2 ohm factory speakers and you replace them with 4 ohm aftermarkets then it will not be quite as loud as it used to be but will still sound good. How many ohms is a Mopar Radio?
Typically, the output of any car radio is 8 ohms

Which cylinder heads need to be used to run a six pack set up on a mopar 340 small block?

i'm building a 340 stroker and want to equip it with a holley six pack set up. which cylinder heads are compatible with the six pack intake manifold?Which cylinder heads need to be used to run a six pack set up on a mopar 340 small block?
if you can find a set of 71 model 340 heads from a challenger or t/a they,ll work fine on it,any good 340 head will do with the six pack set up,and work well,,i have a 71 challenger 6 pack with regular 340 heads,,,and it runs fine, good luck, i hope this help,s.
440 six pack not 340 six pack Dude! But if you have to. Check Mopar people dragracers and ask questions. You will need a gray hair oldster like me to help you get enough flow to pull fuel into that engine. Don't you know no auto manufactures use Carburators any more WHY? Besides the 110 octaine leaded gas needed to light up the 340 and high compression needed to bang the piston down. You will fight an up hill battle because there is no way you will beat displacement!Which cylinder heads need to be used to run a six pack set up on a mopar 340 small block?
the best heads (factory) to use are "J" heads.
Well, it could actually be just about any of them. The six packs come with different widths, so you can buy one to fit just about any head.

Just buy the heads you want the most, and get a six pack that has the correct width. Im sure you can.

When I replaced the carb on my jeep, I was given the choice of about 5 different sizes of 20 different models of carbs.

Just find out what the head takes (like 2 1/8" for instance) and get a carb that matches.

I guarantee you that holly has the size you need.Which cylinder heads need to be used to run a six pack set up on a mopar 340 small block?
The cylinder heads have nothing to do with what carburetor setup you're using. It's all in the intake manifold.
If you're getting the rare T/A intake, you ought to run it with the matching heads. The new six pack intakes work with regular pre-Magnum production heads; if you don't have a set of cylinder heads you like, I would say go with either the late '80s 360 heads or new alloy castings depending on your budget.
APPARENTLY JOHN PAUL IS NOT A MOPAR GUY.ACTUALLY ANY 340 HEAD SHOULD WORK WITH YOU 6 PACK. NICE MOTOR, LOTS OF HP AND TORQUE. I BELIVE THERE IS A AFTERMARKET ALUMINUM HEAD ADVAILBLE FOR THAT APPLICATION.
By the time you go thru the bother of finding an old set of 340 heads or 360 heads to use, and you dump the cash into getting them redone right, you can buy a nice set of aftermarket heads - like Edelbrock - Check your Summit catalog

The only way is to get yourself from admin to co-owner then you can do whatever you want. So no there is no way unless you can somehow hack into the source and then code it for you to be higher rank than an admin.

Mopar 273 comando motor. How do you tell if it is in fact a true comando motor.?

I purches an 69 dodge dart and this motor was included i thought it was a 318 at first but after i got all the grease and crap off it i found out its a 273 but how can i tell if its a comando motor or just a regular 273, and would it be a good fit for that car or would a 318 be better? if it is a 273 camando my plan is to build it, any tips or should i build the 318?Mopar 273 comando motor. How do you tell if it is in fact a true comando motor.?
i own two of those old 273 engines and that was one of the highest revving engines chrysler ever built due to the short stroke it had,but none of them was ever called the commando,i got one that came out of a 66 barracuda, that runs right around 275 horse power, stock no modifications, they also had factory aluminum intakes on them, and solid lift cams,in a light body car they was hard to beat, you can buy any piece you want for that engine, i rebuilt mine about two years ago, jegs has any piece you want for that engine,i bought a master rebuild kit for less than 500 bucks, pistons and all,the 318 is a better engine to build but the 273 would smoke it on a 1/8 mile track,in its time nothing anyone else had would touch it coming out of the hole ,not even fords popular 289 would touch it,i know i use to race them every saturday night, good luck.
I don't remember the 273 engine ever being called a "Commando", a term usually reserved for the big block engine, 361 cubic inches and up, in the Plymouth line.

The last year for the 273 powered Dart was 1967 I believe and if that's the case it would not be an original engine to a '69 Dart.

The highest horsepower 273 was a 275 which required a .500 lift cam and used solid lifters. The biggest problem were the small valved heads, a four barrel carb with standard four barrel cam was 235 horsepower. Any parts for a 273 engine would be hard to come by and more than likely have to be custom machined.

My opinion, a 318 would be a better choice as speed parts are readily available and 325 horsepower is fairly easily to reach.Mopar 273 comando motor. How do you tell if it is in fact a true comando motor.?
The real key will indeed be the engine serial number. Some visual clues for the commando 273 are:
Chrome air cleaner cover (center would have red paint with chrome spelling out Commando 273).
The valve covers were painted black with the top fins unpainted aluminum.
And the oil filler and crank case vents (1 on each valve cover) will both be chrome.

The 273 Commando powered the "Goldfish", a 1965 gold colored Plymouth Barracuda. Won the F/Stock nationals in 1965 with 13.47/103.68

The 273 was not an option for 69 in the Dart.
The Commando 273 was not an option for any year Dart (Plymouth)

So...you could have a commando or not. The presence or absence of valve covers or other aesthetic items should not be taken as proof, either way.

The "correct" engine can be decoded from your car's build plate. If it came with a V8 it was likely the 318 but there were a few 440 and a special run of 426's for Hurst. If you have a Commando, it is worth looking further into a rebuild.

Edit: LOL Somehow this question drew a lot of negative for so many good answers, or there is a place in the world where the thumbs down is a GOOD thing.
I think there were 3 versions of the 273

the first was the two barrel, then a standard 4 barrel, then a really high performance version

the first indication would be is it a 2 or 4 barrel motor? Does it have a manually adjustable valve-train? Dual point distributor?

I would build the 318 myself and store the 273 for a more original project carMopar 273 comando motor. How do you tell if it is in fact a true comando motor.?

What does "Mopar" mean in the world of cars?

Refering to Plymouth Hemi Barracudas specifically, the term is probably used for other cars. What does "Mopar" mean in the world of cars?
MOPAR is MOtor PARts, serving Daimler/Chrysler Corporation. Initially was parts for Chrysler similar to Motorcraft for Ford. It got REAL big in the 60's %26amp; 70's in the racing circuits and the muscle cars. Now it is pretty much generic for Chrysler products.
Mopar is the manufacturer of the parts that go into the making of Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, and DeSoto's. It stands for Motor Parts. What does "Mopar" mean in the world of cars?
that's short for " more runnin' for parts"
Dodge, Plymouth, and Chrysler autos. The term dates back to the fifties or sixties. The "hemi" engines really put Mopars on the map beginning in the fifties. Their heyday was during the sixties and seventies when the 428 Hemi engines absolutely ruled race tracks all across the US. The engines were so powerful that limits were put on them to regulate their outout because Chevy and Ford could not match them. There just wasn't a race when Hemis were on the track.

Mopar still holds a very special place in the hearts of muscle cars fans. I still remember when Roadrunners and SuperBees and Challengers and Cudas and Chargers and Satellites and Furys dominated the street. I had a 1969 Charger with a 383 Commando that was absolutely frightening in terms of power. Coupled with the indestructible Mopar drive train these cars were nothing but a slice of heaven for all of us young men with way too much testosterone. My Charger would absolutely burn the tires off in the blink of an eye. Most of us with auto transmissions practiced and perfected power braking. It was nothing short of inspiring when I would feel that certain pressure on the brake pedal. Just enough to lock the front wheels, but let the rear wheels still spin. When I felt that sweet spot with my left foot I would drop the shifter into low and gently add power with my right foot. The rear of the car would raise slightly and I would feel the rear wheels start to turn. There was a slight "bumping" sensation as the tires accelerated through a certain rpm range. When the wheels reached sufficient rpm that bumping would stop I would firewall the pedal and the 383 would practically explode with horsepower. The rear end would raise slightly again and the smoke would start boiling from the wheelwells. I would hold it until I could no longer see the rear of the car in the side mirror and smoke started to fill the cabin. I would then release the brakes and the front of the car would almost lift from the ground as the sticky-hot L60-15 Goodyears hooked up. One friend told me he did see air under the right front tire once. When the tach reached about 4500 rpm I would slide the shifter into "D" and let the tranny manage the power. I never lost a race in that car.

My CD player does not work in my '02 Jeep Liberty, is it still covered by Mopar warranty?

The CD player jammed one day and now it won't work. Should I take it to my Jeep dealer and see if they can fix it and if not does the warranty still cover that or is it long since expired? Also, would I be better off just getting a new CD player and having it installed from somewhere else?My CD player does not work in my '02 Jeep Liberty, is it still covered by Mopar warranty?
Get yourself a new one, your warranty expired long time ago, and if you go to the dealer to fix it, will cost you more than a new one, and you will still have the old one prone to go bad again, they charge $45.00 an hour labor alone, plus parts.

Besides, they don麓t have a electronic technician, Try it, you will see. They send it out to be fixed. My CD player does not work in my '02 Jeep Liberty, is it still covered by Mopar warranty?
